Faster Kill, Faster Kill Pussycat, I Can’t Stand To See You Cry

RIP
November 10th, 1977 – December 20th, 2009

Another tragedy for 2009- as if the losses of both Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze and Michael Jackson weren’t enough (my admiration of MJ lies solely with his music). Brittany Murphy has died at the age of 32. The actress went into cardiac arrest in the early morning hours of December 20th, in Los Angeles. Hours before she was found unconscious in the shower, she had been vomiting and complaining that she felt ill, her Mother has reported. Her husband has gone on to tell the media that following several finished film projects, she was mentally and physically tired, and was merely suffering from laryngitis. Despite being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she had died on the way there. According to sources, Brittany had been self-administering prescription medications to alleviate flu-like symptoms over a span of several days, and a number of prescriptions were found in her home in her name, as well as in her Mother and Husband’s names. "There were a lot… a lot of prescriptions in the house," one source has reported. Rumors have also been flying around online that Brittany’s death may have been the result of anorexia, though the rumor is unfounded. Several sources have added that she was behaving rather strangely, often zoning in and out of consciousness, a pattern of behavior that was even parodied on Saturday Night Live (the clip has since disappeared from the internet) shortly before her death. Michael Adams, a columnist for thewrap.com, said that Murphy told him in 2002 that she suffered from a heart condition. The Coroner has tenatively stated that her death appears to be natural.

Brittany Murphy had her first big film break at the age of 18 in Clueless. She played Tai, the offbeat outsider who became one of the bubbly sidekicks to Alicia Silverstone‘s Cher. From there, she scored several smaller roles in Drop Dead Gorgeous and Drive, before winning some kudos for her performance in Girl, Interrupted, opposite Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder. Bigger parts soon followed, including leads in Cherry FallsDon’t Say A Word and an emotional turn alongside rapper Eminem in 8 Mile

More recently, she appeared in Just Married with then-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, who left his goodbye message for her on Twitter: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittanys family, her husband and her amazing mother Sharon. See you on the other side kid." Murphy also appeared in Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning. She also played Shellie for Robert Rodriguez in Sin City and was contracted to reprise her role as Shellie in the long-awaited sequelMurphy received the most critical praise for her role in the 2006 indie drama The Dead Girl, released the same year as her voice could be heard as the penguin Gloria in George Miller‘s Oscar-winning animated film Happy Feet. But it was another voice-over role, that of Luanne in TV’s King Of The Hill, for which many will remember her. She had also begun to branch out into studio recording, featured in a Paul Oakenfold song called Faster Kill, Pussycat. Brittany has several completed films awaiting theatrical release, including Sylvester Stallone‘s notable The Expendables.

Murphy was upbeat on December 3rd, at a fashion event- which may have been her final public appearance. In an off-air interview with Access Hollywood, she stated "As far as having a New Year’s resolution, I’d love to have a child next year."

An autopsy was performed today to determine the exact cause of death. It has been cited that the cause was natural, and authorities do not suspect foul play. Despite this citation, the chief Coroner will not be releasing Brittany’s exact cause of death for several weeks, when the results of the toxicology labs return. "We are keeping the investigation open until the toxicology reports are available in five to six weeks," a senior LAPD officer has reported to RadarOnline. "We are focusing on possible overdose scenarios including looking at prescription medicines." It has also come to light that Brittany suffered from Type 2 Diabetes, which may have contributed to her death. She’s survived by husband Simon Monjack, who, today, told Access Hollywood; "My world was destroyed yesterday," Her family has issued a press release that simply states ‘The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time."
